Sorry I'm not home right now, I'm walking into spiderwebs...

...so leave a message and I'll call you back!

"The rest of 2012" Challenge - Halloween #2

It's halloween! And this is the mani I am wearing for this very special occasion - because halloween 2012 is not just a day of horror and candy corn, it is also the official release date for Assassins Creed 3! So excuse me while I glue my nerdy self to the Xbox! Laters!

For this mani I used Manhattan 08S and I added Spooky Floam from Ninja Polish to an accent finger. I stamped the rest with spiderwebs from the DRK-A plate.

I will leave you with the awesome song that inspired this manicure:

"The Rest of 2012" Challenge - Halloween nails #1: Slutty Jack!

Challenge time again - I've actually made 2 halloween manis, so I'll show one today and then another tomorrow.

I started off with China Glaze Jolly Holly, a beautiful holiday green.

Then I added two coats of this beautiful halloween glitter from WellNails called Slutty Pumpkin

Slutty Pumpkin was feeling pretty damn shiny, so I toned her down with a matte top coat, because matte glitter is awesome!

Now I loved this mani on it's own, but Slutty Pumpkin was feeling a bit lonely so I decided to give her friendly company by none other than Jack. To make him pop, I put him on top of Color Club What a Shock.

This was my first ever use of decals, and though it was a tiny bit wonky and smudgy I think it turned out pretty well and I will definitely be trying that again.

Girly Bits: Crunchy Leaves

Girly Bits is one of my favourite indies, they have great colours and formulas, and there is an amazing variety in the different polishes. What they all have in common is pure awesomeness. I think she adds it as a secret ingredient to every bottle.

I layered it over OPI Every Month Is Oktoberfest. Crunchy Leaves is quite opaque on it's own, but I wanted to add the the dark red base. This was my first time trying Every Month Is Oktoberfest, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Not only is the colour even more beautiful than I imagined, it also went on very smoothly, and covered perfectly in one coat. Had I been wearing it on it's own, I would probably have added a second coat though, just because.

In the end I stamped a few stars on top, just because I really like stamping these days.

You can buy Girly Bits from the Girly Bits store or from Llarowe

Cover band: Love, Lace 'n Lawsuits

Ninja mail is the best mail, it really is. A couple of days ago I got this beauty and a bottle of Spooky Floam in the mail, and I can honestly say - there is no better way to start the day!

I have been on the lookout for a good matte white glitter topcoat for a while. I tried Nubars white polkadot, and while pretty, it just looked too silver for what I was looking for. Then I tried Crows Toes Bunny slope, and while that is truly a gorgeous polish it was still not at all what I was searching for. Because what I really was looking for was the original that inspired this nail polish, one that I was never able to get my grubby hands on. So when this was announced I jumped with joy, and I grabbed it the moment I had a chance.

Here is Cover Band: Love, Lace 'n Lawsuits.

Here it is, over OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It! I even love the bar glitters in it! And I have had so many complimentary comments on my nails these last couple of days with this manicure.

It's just stunning, isn't it?

Which is a lot more than I can say for my nails, because even with basecoat, OPI Swimsuit... Nailed It! gave me a quite severe case of smurf nails. Oh dear.

Disney Villains Swatches

On my recent trip to London, I had the pleasure of hanging around the Disney Store for a small eternity, while my friend bought dolls for her daughters. Oh joy. It did however help a bit that I found this lovely set of polishes. I love the fact that they are based on the Disney Villains, because to be honest, after spending eternity in a Disney Store, I was quite sick of anything cute and pink.

They have a really special faceted bottle shape and contains 0.5 fl.oz/15 ml each:

First up is Cruella De Vil, a beautiful red creme. I am not usually a fan of reds, but I rather liked this one.

Evil Queen is a lovely dark reddish black base, with a lot of red shimmer, that is very hard to caputure on camera. But trust me - it's there and it is pretty!

Maleficent is probably my favourite of the lot, it's a gorgeous green shimmer, with a blueish duochrome shine. The pictures came out looking teal, but in reality it is very green.

Mother Gothel is a dark, burgundy jelly. It's pretty, but it does bad things to my cuticles - and I still don't really like red.

Queen of Hearts is a gold shimmer. It's quite pretty - it leans more orange than the picture shows, and it is quite shimmery.

The last polish in this bunch is something very unusual - it's a pale pink that I actually kind of like! Now, that is a first - I really don't like pink, unless it's neon. Meet my unlikely new friend Ursula:

All these applied well, and covered in two coats. I bought these as a set in the Disney Store on Oxford Street in London.

WellNails: Koren Elvis (and his poor nards)

Today I have another WellNails polidh to show you - called Kicked Korean Elvis in the Nards.

It is inspired by this episode of How I Met Your Mother, more specifically the dress Lily wears as she goes to town on poor Korean Elvis and his privates.

On the pinky, I did 3 coats of Korean Elvis, and on the other nails I used a white base. It has a softer and more sheer look without the base, but it also has a bit of VNL. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference, but I prefer it with a base, as it also preserves my precious polish.

This polish shares a colour scheme with another of my favourite indies, Dollish Polish Greased Lightning, so I thought it'd be fun to do a quick comparison.

Pointer finger has Greased Lightning with no base, middle finger is GL with white base. Ring finger is Korean Elvis with a white base, and pinky finger is KE with no base.

Korean Elvis has black glitters that Greased Lightning doesn't have, and KE has a larger variation of glitter shapes. I really like the black squares in Elvis. Greased Lightning has a softer and less defined look compared to Kicked Korean Elvis in the Nards. While they are similar, I am definitely very happy to have both in my collection.

"The rest of 2012" Challenge: Breast Cancer Awareness

The last challenge was inspired by Barney from How I Met Your Mother, and I dare say this is a little inspired by him too. After all, it is about two of Barneys favourite items: Boobs!

Yes, I have boobs on my hands. And it kinda feels like they're looking at me.

You can read more and support this deserving cause and all other just as deserving kinds of cancer on:

The polishes I used for this mani are: Essence Magic Wand, Pure Ice Flirt Alert, Cult Nails Cruisin' Nude and Essence Sneezy.

Challenge time!

I have joined a challenge with a group of lovely girls, and this will be my first ever challenge! I have seen interesting challenges before, but a lot of them involves a lot of time commitment, and I am determined to keep this blog something I do for fun and not another stress factor in my life. This challenge suited me, as there is a lot of time to do each challenge.

Today is october 13th, also known to any How I Met Your Mother fans as international suit up day!

Now, bear with me - nail art is not my speciality, but it is fun to do! I decided to do a mani with the tie Barney has to wear when he loses a bet with Marshall, in an attempt to get to touch Lilys boobs. Tsk tsk tsk Barney!

The Ducky Tie:

The oddly shaped yellow blob with an eye is in fact a duck, if you were wondering.
The polishes I used are: OPI What's With The Cattitude, OPI Roadhouse Blues, Wet N Wild Black Creme and Essence Happy

WellNails Drunken nights at MacLaren's swatch

I am back from my mini break in London, and boy did I shop! Nail polish, shoes, clothes, scarves... SO.MUCH.STUFF! I am seriously on a no buy from anything less than life essential for a while now. You can see a picture of my London polish haul on Facebook, and I can't wait to show you swatches of all of it!

But first I want to show you something else: WellNails Drunken nights at MacLaren's

Just before I went on holiday, I had the most wonderful nail mail from the new (and as far as I know first) danish indie nail polish brand called WellNails. I wanted to try them as soon as I got hem, but I had to wait until after my holiday, so naturally these were first on my to-do list when I got back home.

These are the polishes I received from WellNails:

Kicked Korean Elvis in the Nards, Slutty Pumpkin, Drunken nights at MacLaren's
I was lucky enough to win Slutty Pumpkin in a giveaway, and then I just had to buy the others so poor Slutty Pumkin wouldn't feel lonely.

This collection from WellNails is inspired by How I Met Your Mother, one of my favourite TV shows. Drunken nights at MacLaren's is inspired buy the gang's favourite bar, located underneath the flat inhabited by most of members of the gang at some point during the show.

I started this mani with Kiko 390. I purchased this on my holiday, in a place I like to call VarnishWonderland. Other people may know this place as Westfield London - home of the Models Own bottleshop and many, many, MANY shops. It is now also the new home of most of my money.

A beautiful soft green, perfect for... well spring really. Is it spring somewhere now? I'm thinking Australia maybe, so we're good. It has a beautiful metallic shimmer and manages to look so soft that you just have to touch it.

I then added two coats of Drunken nights at MacLarens and one coat of Seche Vite. The application was good for a glitter top coat, and I didn't have to fish for the green moons to come out. It has a bit of reflective curling, but lays perfectly flat on the nail.

See? perfectly flat.

Holiday nails!

Committing to a holiday nail design is a big commitment. It means I have to wear this one design for at least a couple of days, because changing it (yeah, can't go on holiday without polish) means wearing just a polish for your mani, as there is usually no time for fancy designs. I chose what is quickly becoming my favourite stamp:

Skulls from one of the Vivid lacquer stamping plates in Wet n wild black creme over OPI Teal the cows come home. I'm pretty sure they'll bring me a great time - see you all in a week or so!
